My most popular party appetizer is also amazingly easy and only needs a couple of ingredients. Whip it up in no time for your next party!

Anytime I bring a homemade food item over to a party, I panic that no one is going to eat it. In fact, I’m typically the one having 5 servings of my dish just to make it appear popular (and edible).

On the contrary, one of my best friends Alison is a not only a natural host but an amazing cook as well. She makes it all appear effortless as she’s opening her oven pulling out something amazing right as the guests arrive. And to top it off her husband makes the best cocktails. They’re literally the most perfect party hosting couple ever.

Meanwhile at my house before a party I’m running around like crazy, unnecessarily cleaning areas that guests will never see, making Joe fix my destroyed concoction in the oven, and likely with a glass of wine to calm my nerves.

I asked Alison to share her recipe for her famous bacon wrap appetizers. This is probably my favorite party appetizer ever especially because it’s so simple to make!

INGREDIENTS

  • Bacon
  • Whole water chestnuts
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup hot sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • Toothpicks

Don't buy new coasters, MAKE them! Incredibly simple DIY coasters create a decorative touch to any room as well as excellent gifts!

I love the idea of adding design with function since I try to keep to a more minimal decor style. That’s why having decorative diy coasters is right up my alley. And a DIY? Well that’s something I couldn’t resist.

I found these coasters at Goodwill (for $2!!), although you could start from scratch using cork board or white bath tiles.

Don't buy new coasters, MAKE them! Incredibly simple DIY coasters create a decorative touch to any room as well as excellent gifts!

SUPPLIES

  • Coaster material (whether old coaster or cork board or bath tiles)
  • Painters tape
  • Clear protecting spray (I’ve used this for quite a few DIYs, such as this)
  • Paint brush
  • Acrylic paints
  • If you’re using cork board or bath tiles, I would recommend adding felt pads underneath to prevent coasters from scratching your table

Here’s some of my favorite coasters …. great for DIY inspiration!

INSTRUCTIONS

First step always is to wash and dry your coasters.

My next step was to paint each coaster white, including the sides. You may or may not choose to do this step, depending on the design you make.

Don't buy new coasters, MAKE them! Incredibly simple DIY coasters create a decorative touch to any room as well as excellent gifts!

Once the paint dried (overnight), start placing the painting tape on the coasters in whatever design you choose! Personally I like the look of each coaster with a slightly different design, yet all being in the same color pallet. You really cannot go wrong with whatever design you choose!

Make sure your tape is long enough to wrap down the edges and underneath to help it stay adhered through the painting process. Press the tape down hard before moving onto the next piece.

With each color you choose layer on at least two LIGHT coats of acrylic paint, waiting a minimum of 1 hour in between coats.

After putting the last coat of paint on I let them dry overnight before removing the tape just to ensure its completely dry. Then slowly and carefully remove the tape.

Best practice to protect the coasters with a waterproof sealant.

If you used cork board or tiles, your last step will be to add on a felt pad to each corner so they won’t scratch your table.

Quick and easy homemade streak free window cleaner, just two ingredients! No more expensive name brands when you can make it yourself!

Quick and easy homemade streak free window cleaner, just two ingredients! No more expensive name brands when you can make it yourself!Because this Fast Fix Friday is SO fast, there’s two today!

Homemade Streak Free Window Cleaner AND an All-Purpose Cleaner

I like these not only because it’s so easy & cheap, but also I LOVE the idea of matching labeled spray bottles instead of different shaped ones regular cleaning sprays come in (more on that at the end of the post).

Streak Free Window Cleaner

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp. blue Dawn dish soap (I’ve used other kinds, but Dawn seems to work the best!)

All Purpose Cleaning Spray

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Borax natural detergent (find this at your local grocery store in the laundry aisle)

Quick and easy homemade streak free window cleaner, just two ingredients! No more expensive name brands when you can make it yourself!

For both recipes combine the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake to mix.

Now on to my favorite part: matching bottles & labels.

I found these spray bottles on Amazon and really liked them. They’re sturdier than the typical spray bottle. The tall and narrow design fits under my sink better than traditional bulkier odd shaped sizes. You could put any type of labels on these bottles, but I prefer these waterproof ones. Now I question whether these would last if I submerged in to water, but I can tell that they’re made of a stronger more ‘plastic-y’ material. I’ve used them daily (well… maybe 🙂 ) for over a year and the labels still look like new.

Now there’s no excuse not to clean the windows!

Never have missing socks after laundry again! This tutorial will keep your socks from going missing and laundry room organized! This is my story of the missing socks. Sure enough, after a load of laundry there’s always at least one random sock without it’s partner.

every. single. time.

I’m convinced the drain eats them up or they mysterious get in between the walls. I put the solo socks back in my dresser drawer assuring myself that once I find the matching sock I’ll remember to pair them. Enter a sock drawer of individual unpaired socks.

Never have missing socks after laundry again! This tutorial will keep your socks from going missing and laundry room organized!

The solution: only paired socksget put back into the bedroom dresser drawers. Until the sock has it’s pair, it gets stored in the laundry room in these cute labeled baskets.

SUPPLIES

  • Two decorative baskets **
  • Ribbon
  • Labels (I used these)
  • Hole punch

** I made a second basket for socks that were past their prime and ones that truly lost their partner AKA “cleaning rags”.

Never have missing socks after laundry again! This tutorial will keep your socks from going missing and laundry room organized!

INSTRUCTIONS

Either hand-write or type out your labels, trimming according to label holder size. I typed mine and just printed on plain printer paper. Slip the labels in to the clear label holders and make a hole punch on each side.

Next loop the ribbon through the label holes ensuring the ribbon runs in the back of the label. Pull the ribbon around the entire basket, tying in a knot tightly on the back of the basket.

Never have missing socks after laundry again! This tutorial will keep your socks from going missing and laundry room organized!

Tada! You’ve got one basket for single socks and one for ‘socks turned rags’! Each time I do the laundry and find a single sock, I simply check my sock basket to either find it’s match or place the single sock in it.

Keep these out on top of your laundry machine or tuck them away in a nearby cabinet.

May your socks never be single again!

I love to organize and that extends to my key chain! This simple and fun key chain organization project even includes a beauty product!

Each day when I get home from work I stand outside our front door trying at least three keys before I find the one that opens my front door. I find it a personal victory when I guess it right the first try.

As I’m navigating through my key chain I promise myself I’m going to find a solution to this frustration. Then the second I finally get through the front door my frustration is forgotten, well for 24 hours.

One of the problems is that my key chain is a disaster. Apparently I’m a key hoarder: holding on to keys in which I can’t even find a door to open. Hopefully most of you will be able to skip this, but my first step in my key chain organization project was to figure out what each of my keys go to!

I love to organize and that extends to my key chain! This simple and fun key chain organization project even includes a beauty product!

Once I parted ways with the unneeded keys, I was ready to get started.

This DIY tutorial will not only make your key chain pretty & organized, but also use up some of that old nail polish that you’re yet to use up. Yep, you read that right. We’re pairing organization with beauty products!

SUPPLIES

  • Old toothbrush
  • Dish detergent
  • Enough nail polish for each of your keys
  • clear coat nail polish or clear protector spray
  • Keys
  • Painters tape
  • Paper towels/newspaper

First order of business? Wash your keys. Bet you’ve never done that before! Me neither. I opted for a quick and easy soaking with dish detergent for 5 minutes while I dug out the rest of my supplies.

I love to organize and that extends to my key chain! This simple and fun key chain organization project even includes a beauty product!

Then taking an old toothbrush (I save my old toothbrushes for various DIY projects), I quickly scrubbed the keys down. You wouldn’t put nail polish on dirty nails, so why do it on dirty keys!?

Next thing I did was get rid of all my extra my key rings. I really only need one, but over the years have mysteriously collected many of these, which aren’t necessary and bulk up my key chain.

Taping the keys with painters tape is essential for me, as ‘straight lines’ are not something in my vocabulary! I then paired each of my keys with a nail polish. After laying out some paper towels I paint my first coat on one side (and edges) of each key. I let these sit for an hour before flipping over and painting the other side of each. I did three coats on each side, but you may choose to opt for less!

I love to organize and that extends to my key chain! This simple and fun key chain organization project even includes a beauty product!

Once you’re satisfied with the color/number of coats, put a protector over it – either a top coat or protector spray. I had some clear protector spray handy as I use on many craft projects.

I love to organize and that extends to my key chain! This simple and fun key chain organization project even includes a beauty product!

Of course you can add a cute key chain, but if you want to really go minimal the keys add enough of a decorative touch on their own!

How can velcro help in organizing appliance cords? This simple 5 minute project will have your appliance cords organized easily!

How can velcro help in organizing appliance cords? This simple 5 minute project will have your appliance cords organized easily!
My husband asked me if I was running out of things to organize when he saw this project. First, did he really think I was going to run out of things to organize? But in all seriousness, I hate the way cords tend to get in the way.

This quick and easy Fast Fix Friday simply requires a ‘cordy’ appliance and velcro! (I used this one, which comes in white OR black and can be easily cut to fit perfectly.)

How can velcro help in organizing appliance cords? This simple 5 minute project will have your appliance cords organized easily!

Make sure your appliance is clean before attaching any velcro on it. I just spray a little all purpose cleaner and wipe off with a paper towel.

Then wrap the cord around the appliance as you normally would. Add a piece of velcro on to the plug-in and the other to the appliance, avoiding any spots that could be warm when plugged in.

Note that I only use velcro on appliances that heat up IF there’s a part of the appliance that stays cool while plugged in (such as my curlers).  I get nervous that the velcro may start on fire, so I skip this for things like my crock pot and straightener.

May tangled cord now be a thing of your past!

http://musthavemom.com/2016/06/5-ways-ipads-can-increase-work-productivity.html

Not being the cook in the family I don’t often reach for the spices, but my husband does regularly. Fortunately my love for organizing trumps my confusion in the kitchen.

I hated the way our spice containers were all different shapes & sizes and in those rare occasions where I use them, it would take a long time sifting through to find the spice I needed.

http://musthavemom.com/2016/06/5-ways-ipads-can-increase-work-productivity.html

This rolling end cabinet that the spices were in wasn’t working either, so I cleared out a drawer for the spices.

My two priorities with this project were to have matching containers and easily identifiable labels.

SUPPLIES:

STEPS:

First step is to create the new labels, which will go on the lid of each new spice jar. This Spice Container Labels word document download is what I used for my Container Store clear spice jars in the link above. I made a label for each of the spices I currently had (many of which I couldn’t even pronounce!).

Print these on label sheets (I really like the Avery ones listed above).

Now the labels need to be cut to fit the lids. If you have a circular paper cutter (from scrapbooking or the like), I recommend using it so that it will make an even circle. If not, you can always trace the top your new lids on your printed labels and cut them out (if you trace, flip over your Avery paper to the back to trace with a pencil so that the pencil marks don’t show).

http://musthavemom.com/2016/06/5-ways-ipads-can-increase-work-productivity.html

Place each label on the lid of each new spice jar.

Once all your new spice jars are labeled, transfer the spices in to the new jars. To make it a little less messy (be warned …. it’s still going to be messy!), I used a piece of paper as a makeshift filter.

http://musthavemom.com/2016/06/5-ways-ipads-can-increase-work-productivity.html

Now if you want to get REALLY fancy (which I didn’t), you can alphabetize all your spices!

http://musthavemom.com/2016/06/5-ways-ipads-can-increase-work-productivity.html

May your spices be organized and you’re easily able to pronounce all of them!
