Stop digging endlessly through your purse! We'll show you the top tips and tricks to keep your purse organized while ensuring you've got all the essentials!

It’s a catch 22. I want to store EVERYTHING in my purse, but I want to have to carry NOTHING. After having 1 (well 10) too many things in my purse, I’ve finally ‘downsized’ and organized with a system that’s been working for years. My secret is that every item in my purse goes in to some sort of pouch, even my snacks! Gone are the days of searching aimlessly through my purse hoping to pull up the one item I’m looking for.

Here’s everything in my purse:

Toiletries

Like many of us rushing from work, appointments and social activities, I want to make sure I can go from morning to evening with everything in my purse.¬†My toiletry bag becomes essential. That includes a nail file, chapstick, a couple Band-Aids, pony tail holders, mini floss, lip gloss, stain remover, hand sanitizer, & a face wipe. While I don’t always use each item on a regular basis (although I’m probably pretty close to using my stain remover daily… oppps!), it’s reassuring to know that these items are there if I need them.

Snacks

While we’re talking about essentials, I ALWAYS carry a snack or two with me throughout the day. There’s no way I can make it through a busy day without a pick me up. I like to keep my snacks in a pouch as well. Once I’m finished it even doubles as a temporary place to put my wrappers meaning no crumbs at the bottom of my purse ūüôā .

These Weight Watchers Light String Cheese are a perfect size snack for me AND my pouch. I love the idea of having a healthy snack with me at all times (hello 2pm snack craving!!). At only 50 calories a stick, I grab a couple to snack on throughout the day. It’s a delicious way to get my calcium and satisfy that mid day craving. Grab yours at Meijer and take their¬†No Strings Attached Challenge! If you don’t love the taste, receive a full refund … going on now through 9/17.

Gift Cards

I have a perpetual fear of loosing all my gift cards. Just the thought of hundreds of dollars of “free money” to my favorite stores gone is enough motivation to keep these organized. On a day to day basis I do NOT store all my gift cards in my purse. Instead these go in a cubby in my entry way closet. I take these with me in this cute business card holder when I¬†do a big shopping/errands trip, not necessarily at the specific store that I have a gift card to, but a shopping trip in general. Sure enough I’m bound to go to one of the stores that I have a gift card to while out and about running errands.

Sunglasses & Iphone

I’m quite obsessed with my newest find, technically sunglass holders, but I also use one for my iphone & headphones. Not only is it perfect storage for these items, but the fabric doubles as a quick cleaning cloth.¬†Before my phone would get so dirty at the bottom of my purse (with all the crumbs from my snacks!). These drawstring pouches have mage a HUGE difference!

On the day of your wedding ask a bridesmaid to store your survival kit for safe keeping. If your dressing room is easy to get that’s a great place to store as well. Another option that I’ve seen a lot of brides do is to store in the lady’s room. You’d be surprised how many spots in many hotel or banquet hall restrooms are perfect for storing supplies.

After moving out to Seattle a couple years ago (from Chicago) I’ve learned that skiing is a staple sport in the pacific north west. Not growing up on the slopes, it took me a couple ski trips to¬†learn what the key items were to have a successful and COMFORTABLE trip! Below are my 12 key items that I always bring with me …. in addition to those staples that you think of right away (skis, boots, poles, & helmet if you own them and snow pants, jacket, hat & gloves).

Here’s my top ski essentials

Click on any of the images below for details on the product.

Now, a little bit more about each item …

1 Chapstick | cold dry air can definitely make your lips chapped. I always make sure to have chapstick with me, but especially when skiing! Grab your favorite kind or try out this DIY EOS copy cat version.

2 Sunscreen | The sun can be pretty fierce when you are skiing (any Project Runway fans?). It reflects off the snow & can cause major damaging burns to your skin! I always bring a small face sunscreen with me.

3 Extra socks | I bring an extra pair with me because I ALWAYS seem to get snow in my boots midway through the day. Make sure you have TALL socks that go up to your knees so that your boots don’t rub in to your skin. I’m not one to pay a lot for socks, but I have gotten on the bandwagon for¬†high quality ski socks as a ski necessity.

4 Boots | Wear your winter boots to the ski lodge instead of tennis shoes, else you’ll likely get your first pair of socks wet before you even hit the slopes!

5 Granola bar | Bring a snack in your jacket pocket. You will be really happy you have a quick energy boost when you need it most.

6 Waterproof mascara | If you’re going to wear make-up it’s gotta be waterproof!

7 Waterproof phone holder |¬†Considering my rookie ski skills, I end up in the snow a lot more than I’d like to admit. So having a waterproof case for my phone is pretty crucial. I bought this one online for under $10 assuming my phone would fit a little bit more snug than it did. That ended up being ideal because there was enough room to store some cash & credit cards in it as well!

8 Layers | Think THIN layers. The temperature at the top of the slope can vary greatly from the bottom so even if you’re not cold putting on your skis, you may appreciate the layers once you get to the top! I use my winter¬†running compression tops & bottoms.

9 Extra hair accessories | I braid my hair before I hit the slopes to prevent knots in my ponytail, so I always take an extra ponytail holder or two.

10¬†Workout sunglasses and/or goggles | My¬†first season of¬†skiing I didn’t own goggles, so I used my workout sunglasses which was a great substitute as I was learning to ski. The glare from the snow can be tough on your eyes when you’re on the slopes so make sure to bring something!

11 Infinity scarf | The first couple times I went skiing I didn’t think about keeping my neck warm. BIG MISTAKE. An infinity scarf is¬†a good option because it just stays around your neck! I bought this one because it had the extra layer of lining¬†within¬†it.

12 Backpack | Instead of bringing a nice purse or bag, I brought an old backpack which I stored at the ski lodge while skiing. I stuffed my boots, extra socks, layers and water bottle in it. Ski lodge floors can be dirty (think melting snow on the floor) so skip the fancy bag and bring an old one!

May you pack like a pro even if you’re still a rookie!

Make sure you've always got these 10 items stored in your trunk at all times! Don't worry, these trunk essentials WON'T take up your entire trunk!

As the seasons change, it always seems like the right time to re-organize, re-fresh, re-clean.

Ummm..actually, who am I kidding. I do this daily. I don’t need a weather change as a prompt.

But our car was in need of¬†some major cleaning out and organizing after a summer of road trips and camping. The first area I’m tackling is the trunk! I like to keep essentials in a nice organized manner in the event that ‚Äėsomething‚Äô happens. Hopefully I won‚Äôt need these items, but as the saying goes ‘better safe than sorry.’

Here are my top 10 trunk essentials

Now let me explain my rational for each of these ….

1 Extra¬†Blanket |¬†I store¬†an old blanket¬†that doesn’t really match any of our bedrooms. It’s come in handy to use as an extra blanket camping and when we go to outdoor concerts. And in the event that we had a real emergency, it’s wise to have extra blankets available.

2 Several Garbage Bags | These have been really useful to prevent the car from getting dirty Рputting our dirty boots in post hiking trip and transporting plants in from Home Depot. Make sure you've always got these 10 items stored in your trunk at all times! Don't worry, these trunk essentials WON'T take up your entire trunk!

3 Water & Food |¬†I store¬†two water bottles and a couple bags of nuts in the event that we need food or water. I’ve heard that it’s bad to keep plastic water bottles in a hot car for long periods of time. Yet in the event that we had a real emergency I figured¬†that it would be better to have bad water than no water at all. We’ve also used the water for¬†cleaning up spills.

4 Cleaning Spray & Paper Towels | With the amount of road trips that we take, we do a lot of eating in the car, thus lots of spills and crumbs. Cleaning supplies have come in handy quite often!

5 Extra Towel |¬†It’s great to have as a buffer between the car seat and anything else. We’ve put them on the¬†seats when we’ve had dogs in our car. These specifically came in handy after a canoeing trip when I felt out of the canoe and was soaking wet. (Which was my last canoeing trip)

6 First Aid Kit |¬†I make sure it’s stocked with a lot of band-aids of different sizes, as I tend to get blisters easily. Especially with more outdoor summer activities!

7 Extra Grocery Bags |¬†I can’t count the number of times on my hand when I went to the grocery store and forgot my plastic bags. Ugh. I always keep a couple in the trunk, just in case.

8 Flash Light |¬†Make sure you've always got these 10 items stored in your trunk at all times! Don't worry, these trunk essentials WON'T take up your entire trunk! Believe it or not, I’ve actually used the flashlight for extra light to put on make-up in the car before going out to dinner. Obviously not the intended reason for the flashlight, but it did come in handy ūüôā .

9 Small Umbrella | I live in Seattle. No further explanation needed.

10 Trunk Organizer |¬†This is the one I purchased to put all our items in.¬†I love it and highly recommend it¬†because: 1) it’cheap. 2) it can expand or shrink in size (we all know that trunk space is valuable so I love the options this organizer has). 3) it has Velcro on the bottom so it stays put! No worrying about things in the trunk moving around.

Make sure you've always got these 10 items stored in your trunk at all times! Don't worry, these trunk essentials WON'T take up your entire trunk!
