Here’s our easy and fun pregnancy announcement puzzles that we made to announce my pregnancy to our grandparents!

Step by step instructions for a creative pregnancy announcement puzzle. Easy and affordable, it's the perfect surprise for family or friends!

When I first found out that I was pregnant, I was so excited to tell Joe when he came home from work. Then once he knew … we waited. And waited. What was actually a really short amount of time before telling family and friends seemed a lot longer than it really was. But it was the perfect amount of time to come up with a creative pregnancy announcement to tell our family.  (It was also a great time to come up with a list of all the things you want to get accomplished before the baby arrives. Here’s my list of the 100 things I did.) I used our wedding ring boxes to make announcements for our parents.  So I wanted to change it up. A puzzle was a fun and interactive way to spread the good news!

Instructions

At first my plan was to be ultra crafty using a blank puzzle and design the labeling myself. But after a little research I realized it was much easier (and not much more expensive) do purchase purchase a pre-made puzzle online. I used the website Print Studio. Since they didn’t have an off the shelf puzzle with exactly what I was looking for, I created a digital template to upload on to their site. They then printed the template on to the puzzle for me. The completed puzzle was shipped to me in about a week. This was MUCH easier than attempting to DIY this portion. Feel free to use my ‘We’re having a BABY!’ template bellow. Just right click on the image and save it to your computer.

I originally looked for a small all white box to store the puzzle, but found these binder clips on clearance at Target and realized the box was perfect for this project. I really like the clear top. Amazon also has some fun clear gift box options.

I printed a small note “We’re excited to tell you ….” on standard white card stock in 14 size font. Loving all things arts & crafts, I’ve racked up many paper cutout punches so I used one to make the note card. Adding a hole punch in the top left corner, I laced with ribbon and affixed onto the clear cover.

Super easy and fun way to share the good news!

Over the next couple weeks, I’m going to step away from all the typical organization posts to share some of the fun pregnancy and baby related things I’ve been learning along the way. On April 24th we welcomed our first, Declan, and it’s been quite the wild ride since! Decorating the nursery, organizing the overwhelming about of baby supplies that we apparently need (ahhh!) and a couple fun DIY pregnancy announcements, like  the one I’m sharing in this post.

Last summer when we found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to come up with a fun way to tell our parents that they were becoming grandparents for the first time. Not an over the top crazy announcement, but a fun little surprise for them. Since our parents live on the other side of the country from us, these small pregnancy anouncment boxes were a perfect ‘mailable’ surprise! And true to my style, of course I wanted to DIY instead of buy.

DIY Pregnancy Announcement Supplies

  • small box (I actually used my engagement ring box!)
  • Two pieces of ribbon, one wider & one skinny
  • White cardstock
  • Tape
  • Super glue or crafting glue
  • Customizable Template

Instructions

Grab your two pieces of ribbon and measure by placing each around the box. Trim any extra, keeping an additional 1/2 inch loose ribbon.

Next, wrap the wider ribbon around the box, holding tight and secure with a little glue in the back. Repeat this step with the skinny ribbon on top.

I used this template for my note. It’s editable so you can edit with your information.

The box I used (which was actually my engagement ring box) was 2 1/2 inches on each side, so I measured my note to inches wide (just a tiny bit smaller). This might take a little trial and error to seee what size you want the paper to be. The printable note has two sizes, but since it’s editable you can adjust to whatever works for you!

At the top and bottom of the paper, I made a half inch fold where I’ll tape the paper to the box. The top of the note is folded inwards and the bottom folded back (see phonto). I then folded the note accordian style with each fold the same size.

I then added tape to the the small folds on the top and bottom to secure to the lid & box. The top of the note was secured to the back of the lid and the bottom of the note was secured to the front of the box (see photos below).

I then gently folded and closed the lid of the box and mailed it off!

Step by step instructions for the easiest way to color Easter eggs in a hurry! Looks like it took hours, but you'll spend just 5 minutes!

There’s so many creative & impressive decorated Easter egg tutorials on the web these days. Some just absolutely blow my mind. With my DIY decorations, I’m more of an easier the better type of gal. I’ve had enough Pinterest Fails to write a book (or at least a really funny blog post), so today I’m sharing my tried and true way to color Easter eggs that always turn out the way they’re supposed to.

Supplies

  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Food coloring
  • Several cups / glasses
  • Tray or dish
  • Egg carton

Instructions

To make the dye, I mixed 4-5 drops of food coloring with about 1 inch of water into a glass cup. Using this ratio will make the dye look pretty dark (especially purple), but it colors the eggs perfectly. If you want the colors to be even more bold when dried on the eggs, either add a couple additional drops of food coloring or a little less water.

Step by step instructions for the easiest way to color Easter eggs in a hurry! Looks like it took hours, but you'll spend just 5 minutes!

Make sure the hard-boiled eggs are dry and at room temperature before coloring! (otherwise the food coloring may bleed)

Holding an egg above the tray, I drizzled a spoonful of food coloring on top. The dye naturally rolls down around the egg. To give it a little nudge, I slowly turned the egg sideways and upside down to spread the dye around. There’s no specific pattern or science to this, which is my favorite part! Each egg will look similar but unique.

I let each color dry on the egg before I applied a new color to it to prevent the colors from mixing. Placing the eggs right back in to the carton to dry seems to be the easiest. The drying time only takes about 5 minutes, just long enough for me to finish the rest of the eggs.

I then applied more colors to each of the eggs, repeating the process above. Remember … don’t rush! Let the eggs dry in between colors, otherwise the colors may mix resulting in brown egg dye! Once you’re finished coloring, let the eggs dry one final time, and pop them in to the fridge until you’re ready to display (and eat)!

This post is sponsored by World Market. All opinions are always my own!

Smart ways to use Easter decorations throughout your home for during the rest of the year, from storage solutions to entertaining and everything in between!

I LOVE decorating our house for Christmas. I’m one of those people who gets out the decorations well before Thanksgiving (I won’t reveal HOW early). So most would assume that I continue my holiday excitement for ALL the holidays. I wish I did, but sadly as the New Year starts, resolutions of removing clutter & organizing closets kick in. I then remember how much space all those holiday decorations take up.

Valentine’s day passes without even a thought of a decorations (I’m lucky if I remember to get Joe a card. Ops!). An occasion Saint Patrick’s Day decoration may make its way to our home, which realistically came from a bar. By the time, Easter rolls around, I’ve given up on holiday decorations all together …. until now.

I received a really fun challenge by World Market to find ways to utilize Easter decor all year round, meaning nothing went back in to store. Ultimately removing any excuses I could come up with to decorate for Easter.  I was SOLD! This was music to my ears, as I have NO room to store any additional off season holiday decorations, but desperately want decorate the house for Easter!

I headed over to my local World Market downtown Seattle next to Pike Place Market and picked up decorations that just caught my eye. Here’s how I use each of these during Easter and ‘The Rest of the Year’:

Apothecary jars seem to be all over the place lately. I can see why they’re so popular …. the decorating options are endless. I mean, simply fill the jar with whatever season it is and tada! Holiday decorations.

There was no way I was going to pass up coffee canisters. Hello, anything with coffee on it has my heart. Instead of getting my caffeine rush for the day, I used these as vases the brightly colored tulips that are in season.

Instead of just using the Apothecary jars to decorate for the next holiday (yep, I decided that was cheating), these became a pretty way to store some of our baking essentials on the counter. Clear containers are great for storing heavily used products because it’s easy to see when refills are needed.

The coffee canisters got put to use in my craft closet storing washi tape and ribbons for easy access. A small label on the lids made these the perfect addition to my crafting cart.

The second I spotted this egg crate, I knew it was coming home with me. The clean white color looks great against colorful Easter eggs. I just love that this is a ceramic crate as opposed to the plastic ones I see so often.

One word: APPETIZERS. Since my cooking doesn’t necessarily win everyone over, my dishware will 🙂 . Deviled eggs are such an easy dish that even this rookie can master. Don’t just save this ceramic dish for eggs though. Possibilities are endless for all you fancy cooks out there!

Easter baskets are not just for kids! These make great hostess gifts for friends or family hosting Easter dinner. I stocked mine with fun, but practical gifts that I knew the host would love: an assortment of colorful cooking gadgets will create pops of soft color throughout the kitchen. (and of course some chocolate 🙂 )

In my house, baskets are the queen of storage (Easter baskets or otherwise). There’s ALWAYS some clutter that needs to be hidden. In. Every. Single. Room. From magazines to puppy toys, we keep our baskets full!

Now you’ll have no excuse to skip the Easter decorations this year …. and all year round!
