Although I do take very good care of my engagement & wedding ring, I’ve yet to have them professionally cleaned. I kind of hate the idea of leaving it with someone else, although I’m sure it would be safe and come back to me sparkly clean. Fortunately I’ve got a DIY ring cleaner option that does well to compete (and saves so much time)!

Supplies:

  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 tbsp. dish soap
  • Aluminium foil
  • Old toothbrush
  • Small bowl
  • Scissors

Cut a piece of aluminium foil to cover bottom of bowl. Fill with warm water. Mix in salt, baking soda and dish soap.

Place rings in the bowl for 2-3 minutes.

Use a toothbrush to gently scrub extra dirty jewels. Rinse the ring in warm water. If you’re rinsing over the sink, secure the drain or be very careful not to drop it in! That’s it! It’s that simple. Watch your ring sparkle!

Now if you’re like me, you’ll likely need a manicure to go with that new sparkly clean ring 🙂 .

May your rings always look as sparkly as the day you got engaged!

Have you ever tried Mary Kay 'Satin Hands' scrub? It's AMAZING! This homemade sugar scrub recipe is a great DIY option that takes only 5 minutes!
Have you ever tried Mary Kay 'Satin Hands' scrub? It's AMAZING! This homemade sugar scrub recipe is a great DIY option that takes only 5 minutes!

I love a new beauty product as much as the next person, but what I love even more is being able to make a pretty great alternative right at home. For those of you who have used Mary Kay Satin Hands, you’ll really appreciate this one! For those who haven’t, it’s a really awesome hand scrub that seems to work magic and make your hands feel like … well satin. While I doubt Mary Kay uses Dawn & sugar to make their fabulous scrub, I think this homemade sugar scrub recipe is a pretty good and super quick alternative!

Supplies

Have you ever tried Mary Kay 'Satin Hands' scrub? It's AMAZING! This homemade sugar scrub recipe is a great DIY option that takes only 5 minutes!

Simply add sugar to the container. I like to fill 1/2 full. Then slowly add the Dawn and stir.

You want the consistency to be of a paste (think peanut butter). Don’t get nervous about quantity because you really can’t mess this up.  If you use more sugar the scrub will be grainier on your hands and if you use too little sugar it will just be a bit silkier.  So really no matter what there will be a nice result.

Just use a spoon or your fingers to scoop a bit out, rub over your hands and wash! One of the best parts of this oh so simple recipe is that it lasts a really long time! One batch I made lasted over a year.

May your hands feel like satin in less than 5 minutes!

This DIY lavender linen spray is my newest trick to help me fall asleep at night! It smells fabulous & has a calming effect. It's quick & affordable!
This DIY lavender linen spray is my newest trick to help me fall asleep at night! It smells fabulous & has a calming effect. It's quick & affordable!
I’ve tried everything to fall asleep at night: warm milk & honey, reading, listen to light music, glass of wine, dim the lights in the evening and likely dozens of other tricks. ‘Winding down’ isn’t really my thing. Nor is relaxing. These qualities definitely serve me well in productivity, but not so much in quality sleep.

That’s why I’ve realized I need more than one trick to put me to sleep each night. (I also realized that having my phone attached to me 24/7 is likely negating most of my efforts, but that’s for another day!)

My latest trick that I’m loving is lavender linen spray on my pillows. Lavender essential oil is supposed to help you relax and help manage stress & frustration. At minimum it smells fabulous & has a calming effect. You can definitely buy linen spray pretty much anywhere, but it’s WAY more economical to make it yourself. I never pass up an affordable DIY!

Supplies for lavender linen spray:

  • 1 oz (2 tbsp) witch hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts (any of these will help combat the separation of oil & water in the bottle)
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 3 oz (6 tbsp) water
  • 4 oz spray bottle
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • White label sheets (optional)
  • Printable label (optional)

Directions:

Mix the lavender essential oil & your choice of hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts in the spray bottle. Give a good shake. Why? The essential oil won’t distribute into the water on its own, but when diluted in the hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts, it will mix into the water.

Add water to the bottle until it is almost full.

Screw on the cap and shake the bottle to disperse the oils evenly throughout.

When making these for gifts I tie a ribbon around the top and stick this lavender linen spray label on using printable white label sheets.

Voila! Your homemade lavender linen spray is complete. Shake lightly before each use.

May you put down your phone & be asleep in no time!

Don't spend all your hard earned cash on expensive makeup remover .... I promise this recipe is just as good as department store versions!

Don't spend all your hard earned cash on expensive makeup remover .... I promise this recipe is just as good as department store versions!
I love ‘fancy’ (aka expensive) makeup remover. The more I spend, the more I seem to like it. And as much as I’m down for cheap DIY alternatives, never did I think I would make my own makeup remover. I assumed anything I make would either be way too greasy causing my face to break out or not work at all causing me to obsessively rub my eyes. Well, the last two years have proved me wrong, as I’ve been using & loving my own makeup remover daily … and well saved a lot of money.

How much money you ask? After spending 20 minutes and one fabulous spreadsheet later, I determined that my recipe costs $0.35 per ounce. This compared to my favorite Clinique Rinse-Off Eye Makeup Solvent at $19/4.2 ounces is a steal.

Don't spend all your hard earned cash on expensive makeup remover .... I promise this recipe is just as good as department store versions!

That creates a savings of $4.17 PER OUNCE!

With just a few readily available items (especially if you have a baby or toddler round), you can make a batch of these in a jiffy. Under 5 minutes, I promise!

What You Need:

* Optional to make make up remover PADS

To make the makeup remover, first wash out your empty makeup remover container. Then simply mix the water, baby shampoo & baby oil together in to your empty makeup container container. Tada!

Don't spend all your hard earned cash on expensive makeup remover .... I promise this recipe is just as good as department store versions!

To use shake it up right before each use. Pour a little on a cotton pad or balls, or even your fingers to remove the makeup. I prefer cotton cotton pads which I cut into 4 pieces.

If you want to get fancy and make makeup remover pads, combine the water, baby shampoo & baby oil in to a small mason jar. Pour enough solution to cover the bottom of your small mason jar. Add about 10 pads, allowing them to soak up the solution for a couple minutes. Continue adding 10 more pads at a time, pouring enough solution over each set to cover. Seal with lid when finished. (add a cute label and it would make a great gift!)

Hoping your wallet is a little heavier and your makeup comes off a little easier!

I love my messy house, said no one ever. This is my one solution to keep our house clutter free!

Goodbye house clutter! This one solution saved us from a messy house!

There's ONE item that keeps our entire house clutter free and has single handedly changed the way we pick up and organize our home!
I try to keep our place free of unnecessary house clutter laying around, putting things back where they belong when I’m finished and keeping organized. Yet, when I look around, I always find one or two small things that need to go back to its place. Walking up 3 flights of stairs in our townhouse to put something little away, such as my nail polish, seemed silly and exhausting (although it definitely counted as a workout).

Enter: Decorative Baskets

I bought these 3 matching baskets, one for each floor of our townhouse, to store any clutter in that needs to be put away. Initially I debated whether to do this or not, as the baskets were actually additional clutter themselves. But within no time, these baskets were used on a daily, if not hourly basis. Anytime there was something to put away on a different floor, I just drop it in the basket. Then when I do need to go up or downstairs, I bring the basket with me and drop off all the clutter to it’s home.

keeping our homoe clean and clutter free with this one step!

With the baskets all matching, it’s easy to swap these out as I bring one basket upstairs for a delivery and another downstairs.

Added benefit: it’s the best for a quick clean before guests come, literally throwing everything away in the baskets!

Another idea is to give a basket to each member of the family to put their items in, but since it’s just Joe & me (and really most of the clutter is mine), one basket on each floor worked best for us.

UPDATE: Although Joe & I don’t have separate baskets, I decided that Reagan, the newest member of our family, needed a DIY version just for her!

Now that I’m not walking up and down the stairs as much, I should probably get a gym membership!
