….. otherwise known as the busy girl’s guide to overnight beauty.
I’m no beauty expert but am a self proclaimed expert on saving time so I’m all about beauty tips while sleeping! We’re all trying to shave time here and there during our day, and especially during the morning. We might as well utilize the time we’re sleeping, right? Here’s my 10 best ….
1 Wear gloves to bed! Yes, seriously. If you’re willing to look a little goofy at night, you’ll definitely thank yourself in the morning! With the cold weather, my hands always seem to get extra dry. Standard lotion just doesn’t do the trick. The solution? petroleum jelly & old cotton gloves. Simply slather on petroleum jelly all over your hands, slip them in to your gloves and hit the hay!
2 If you drink as much coffee as I do, you need a little help keeping your teeth sparkling white. To save time instead of using white strips during the day, try an overnight whiting gel … you guessed it … in your sleep! Simply put on before you go to bed and brush off in the morning. Right in time for your first cup of coffee 🙂 .
3 You probably already know that drinking tons of water is good for your skin — but since you can’t do that in your sleep, try using a humidifier to keep yourself hydrated at night. This is especially helpful during the winter, when your skin tends to be much drier. It’s the ultimate in lazy girl beauty, as a humidifier gives your skin an extra dose of moisture at the simple switch of a button. Just make sure you’re replacing the water daily so bacteria and mold don’t grow.
4 For a better night sleep spritz your pillows with a nice lavender scent. Lavender essential oil is supposed to help you relax and help manage stress & frustration. At minimum it smells fabulous & is calming. Your can buy lavender spray almost anywhere OR you can make your own for a fraction of the cost in less than 5 minutes.
6 Upgrade your pillows! Not only do satin or silk pillows help your hair from breaking throughout the night, it also helps prevent tangles. Sounds like magic to me. Cotton pillows can also be tough on our skin. Silk & satin pillow cases have a lot less friction and supposedly won’t cause creases (arrr… wrinkles) the way cotton will. I swapped out 2 of the 6 pillows on my bed (yes, I have 6 pillows) for these silk pillows.
7 Now that you’ve got your pretty silk pillow cases, let’s put them in the wash! Because I hate doing laundry and it always piles up at our house, I bought a couple extra pillow cases, so that I can rotate mine at least weekly. (Yes, for your math majors that means I don’t do laundry weekly.) Dirt, bacteria and even mold can get onto the pillow cases which does no beauty routine ANY good.
5 Ever wake up with puffy eyes? There’s many reasons this could happen, but one for sure is coming from sleeping on your stomach. I know I know, I’m a stomach sleeper too and wasn’t happy about this. To make sleeping on my back more confortable, I pile up a couple (silk 🙂 ) pillows so that I’m a little elevated while I sleep. It’s just more confortable for me!
8 My hair looks like a hot mess when I wake up in the morning. So many knots throughout to the point where I considered buying little kid detangler spray! But instead I keep my hair either in a French braid or a loose bun on top of my head. (The loose bun doesn’t create creases)
9 For the nights that you don’t put your hair in a bun try conditioner instead! Yes, you hear that right. Sometimes washing off the conditioner while you are in the shower isn’t the BEST idea. Why not leave it overnight? Separate your hair in to sections and apply the conditioner. Place a plastic bag over your hair and sleep with it. In the morning just wash it out in the shower with shampoo. Your hair will be softer than ever.
10 During the colder months, I’ve been using a night-time face mask twice as week … or as often as I remember 🙂 . I use Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. I thought these overnight masks would be really greasy and get all over my pillow forcing me to wash my pillow even more often! Yet no grease or stains in sight! But it IS another reason not to sleep on your stomach! When you use a night mask like this, you skip your regular nighttime face regimen and replace with the face mask. Even if you’re skeptical, it’s worth trying out once or twice. Que Bella makes a 2 pack travel face mask that I really like.
I had to throw in a picture of our newest addition to the family (8 week old Doberman puppy!), who also really enjoys sleeping. Definitely my daughter 🙂 .
May you wake up even more beautiful than when you went to bed! Now if only we could answer emails in our sleep :)!
