I found out the other week that Joe doesn’t always read my blog posts. Obviously he’s not my target market, but what?!?! I felt a little like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex & The City when Samantha tells her that she doesn’t always have time to read her newspaper column. In his defense he claims he doesn’t need to read them because he pretty much watches each post being created in our kitchen on almost a daily basis!
So when I was working on our entry way command center, he did his customary “working on a blog post”? I thought to myself, who on earth would care to see how I set up a couple shelves near our entry way. A week later friends saw the newly installed entry way command center and said “Ohhhh when is this going to be on the blog?”
So apparently my last ditch effort to get all the clutter off of our counters is officially blog worthy. Great news because this may have been my LONGEST in progress home project ever. No matter how many baskets and containers we have throughout our house, we ALWAYS seem to have extra ‘stuff’ on our counter tops.
Counter clutter is the one thing that make our place look messy and small.
I’m constantly moving keys, headphones, mail, & Reagan’s leash to put them in a dish of sorts on our counter. Then these dishes start to pile up and I’ve created a whole new area of clutter. It’s a vicious cycle!
Unfortunately we don’t have a big front door entry way area so it never occurred to me to use the small wall space that we had. But that’s what we did! Not loving any of the prepaid command centers I was seeing online (I wanted clean & metal), I opted to make my own pieces….. well buy my own (no DIY for this project)!
Here Were The Problem Areas / What I Purchased
- Sorting our mail / Chrome wall magazine rack
- Easily grab ours keys & glasses / Silver stick-on hooks
- ‘Baskets’ for extras (clutter) / Wall pockets
I loved the look of these hooks and also loved how easy they were to ‘hang’ up (aka- peal off the tape on the back), as the rest of the command center needed to be nailed in.
Here’s the final product!
These pocket cubbies were great for more miscellaneous items that we need near our entry, such as Reagan’s puppy harness, chap stick, & headphones.
Keys, hats & sunglasses are within easy access on the silver square hooks.
Since it’s just Joe & I in our house, the third mail rack doubled as puppy towel holder to dry off Reagan’s feet when it’s raining!
May your counters be forever empty!

Lol I found out my husband doesn’t read my blog either, though he also claims he sees everything I’m working on spread throughout the house. I love your organizer idea. We could definitely use a place for our dog leashes and towels as well! Those wall pockets are so handy!

Awesome command center. Consider me properly motivated to do something like this in my house. What a timely post- I spent 30 minutes this morning trying to find my keys. They were in my hubby’s pockets from a pre-supper last minute grocery run!! Not fun!

Cute! I love those little cubbies. So handy! I keep thinking about a command center but haven’t figured out how I want it to function yet. Also, my husband rarely reads my blog posts nor does he follow my FB page. Of course, I don’t write anything geared towards him at all and he follows very few FB pages. It used to really bother me. Now I find it almost funny. 😉 (visiting from Welcome Home Wednesday)

This totally inspired me. I have hooks on the wall for keys, but I still have endless counter clutter from other stuff creeping in. I love the metal baskets and the paper organizer.

Absolutely love this! Eventually we’ll finish our mudroom and I can do something similar. Our bar does double duty as catch-all right now!

Hey Lindsay…my Funtastic Friday link party co-host! I feel your pain when it comes to the hubby not reading your content. I think that’s an ever present struggle. Why would they read when they can just eat…lol! I think its awesome that he just assumed your project was going on the blog! That’s when you know they ARE actually paying attention. I think this project is ingenious! I had no idea you could purchase those wall pockets…i’ve actually never seen them before. I need those for my craft room like ASAP! Brilliant ideas!!!

I love those wall pockets! Those would be great for all our random clutter that ends up on the bookcase by the front door.
