Christmas is always going to be the leading holiday in our family as far as decorations go. But needing a little holiday cheer in our house (Seattle winters are DARK and RAINY), I’m championing for Valentines Day. This Valentines Day tablecloth was both decorative AND functional, as it was perfect for my girls night valentines day dinner! Added bonus? You don’t need to be an expert painter to pull it off. Can you draw a heart? Even a bad lopsided heart? Then you can do this one!
Supplies
- White plastic tablecloth
- Black acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Newspaper, boxes or garbage bags to prevent paint from spilling!
The first thing I had to do was decide WHERE I was going to set up shop to start this project. Having our new little puppy (a very energetic Doberman) in our house means NOTHING goes on the ground! I covered our kitchen table with BOTH garbage bags and a couple broken down cardboard boxes before placing the tablecloth over it (yes, I get paranoid of spills easily).
Now start painting! I alternated directions and size of each of hearts to intentionally go for an “imperfect” look!
This close up below really shows how easy this project is. Alone it does NOT look pretty, but when each of the hearts looks a little ‘rugid’ it has more of an overall whimsical feel.
AKA, I can’t draw symmetrical hearts very well :).
Be sure to let the tablecloth dry before you start placing any table decorations on top. I get pretty impatient with letting my projects dry and have learned the hard way what happens when you don’t! I let this one sit overnight to be safe, but a couple hours should do the trick.
Add a couple stylish accents and you’re complete!
May your holiday decorations be stylish AND prevent spills at the same time 🙂
