This post was sponsored by Annie Selke as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own. Whenever (aka – not every day) I make my bed, it just looks messy. Not like a toddler made it, but it never had that clean new look like a hotel bed does. So after over examining my hotel rooms on a couple recent vacations and photographing the beds 🙂 , I’m happy to say that I’ve finally figured out how they achieve the look.
Which is perfect timing because we’re knee deep in redecorating our guest room. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with the room, but I knew I wanted to change the look of the bed from more traditional to a sleeker fitted look. (Scroll down to the very bottom of this post for our $500 give-a-way to decorate your own bedroom!)
Before we get started on how to achieve that ‘hotel look’, here’s a snapshot of what our guest room USED to look like. As you can see our look was a lot more traditional & ‘fluffy’ …. and the bed wasn’t made very well. Ops!
On the contrary, here’s the elements I’m incorporating in to our new design.
How to Make a Bed Like a Hotel
1 Quality
Good quality bedding makes all the difference, not only on the comfort meter, but also on the look. Annie Selke, a home decor brand whose high-quality products exude comfort & style, is the perfect place to find my hotel style sheets and blankets. The photos of my guest room below have the Boyfriend Graeylac Matelasse Coverlet & Boyfriend Greylac Matelasse Sham (in the standard size). 2 Wrinkle Free
Have you ever noticed that hotel sheets and blankets never have wrinkles in them? While I have absolutely no idea how that magic happens, it definitely adds to the aesthetic of clean and contemporary. In effort to replicate the hotel look, I did indeed iron our sheets. Yes, not exactly the most important chore to do (or even a chore I would have ever added to my list), but I figured I’d do it once since our guest room is rarely slept in. Plus I wanted to start off our redecorating project the best I could.
3 Fit
One of the reasons we all love climbing in to a hotel bed is that feeling of snuggling in tightly fitted sheets. Gone are the days where I leave the sheets un-tucked on the side of the bed. (Except those days I don’t make the bed …. which are … lots) Yes, it take a little longer to make the bed in the morning, but it’ makes climbing in to a warm bed on a cold night even better.
4 Folds
Do you ever notice how most hotels keep the comforter folded crisply at the foot of the bed? I absolutely LOVE that look, but struggled with recreating it on my own …. until I spent some time to examine the bedding of the last hotel room I stayed at. Much to my surprise, it’s easier than I thought.
Fold the blanket (or comforter) in half and drape over the end of the bed (with the ends of the blanket at the end of the bed & fold in the middle of the bed).
Pull back the top layer of the blanket (top left of the picture below).
Then pinch & pull up the corner side of the lower layer blanket.
While keeping the end of the blanket held up, tuck the side of the blanket into the bed frame.
Now tuck in the end of the blanket. Tada!
(Optional, to tuck in the top layer blanket to the side of the bed frame.)
5 Layering
Adding a bed runner like the hotels often do (or simply another blanket) adds texture and interest. It also doubles as an extra blanket for your guests.
