I’ve tried everything to fall asleep at night: warm milk & honey, reading, listen to light music, glass of wine, dim the lights in the evening and likely dozens of other tricks. ‘Winding down’ isn’t really my thing. Nor is relaxing. These qualities definitely serve me well in productivity, but not so much in quality sleep.
That’s why I’ve realized I need more than one trick to put me to sleep each night. (I also realized that having my phone attached to me 24/7 is likely negating most of my efforts, but that’s for another day!)
My latest trick that I’m loving is lavender linen spray on my pillows. Lavender essential oil is supposed to help you relax and help manage stress & frustration. At minimum it smells fabulous & has a calming effect. You can definitely buy linen spray pretty much anywhere, but it’s WAY more economical to make it yourself. I never pass up an affordable DIY!
Supplies for lavender linen spray:
- 1 oz (2 tbsp) witch hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts (any of these will help combat the separation of oil & water in the bottle)
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 3 oz (6 tbsp) water
- 4 oz spray bottle
- Ribbon (optional)
- White label sheets (optional)
- Printable label (optional)
Directions:
Mix the lavender essential oil & your choice of hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts in the spray bottle. Give a good shake. Why? The essential oil won’t distribute into the water on its own, but when diluted in the hazel, vodka, isopropyl alcohol OR Epsom salts, it will mix into the water.
Add water to the bottle until it is almost full.
Screw on the cap and shake the bottle to disperse the oils evenly throughout.
When making these for gifts I tie a ribbon around the top and stick this lavender linen spray label on using printable white label sheets.
Voila! Your homemade lavender linen spray is complete. Shake lightly before each use.
May you put down your phone & be asleep in no time!
