Laundry always seems to be the most dreaded chore in most households. It used to be with us. I went through system after system trying to ‘prefect’ how to do laundry quickly & efficiently. Finally I’ve learned the perfect laundry system ….. have someone else do it for you. Not sure about you, but that likely won’t be happening in our household any time soon. Instead, here’s the tricks I’ve learned along the way!
Prep
CLEAN WASHING MACHINE: Probably not on the top of everyone’s list, but you should really make sure your washing machine is actually CLEAN. Yes, dirt and grime can build up even in your washing machine. Every 3 months or so I clean ours out simply by throwing in a load of old towels with 1/4 cup baking soda in a hot cycle and add 3/4 cup vinegar down the dispenser. Cleaner washing machine = cleaner clothes!
SORT BY COLOR: Keeping laundry sorted throughout the week makes it much MUCH easier on laundry day. We keep two bins in our laundry room “colors” & “whites”. On laundry day all I have to do is see if the bins are full to determine if we need to do a load. (Each bin holds roughly one load of laundry.) No more taking up the entire hallway floor to sort out all our laundry before washing!
PRE-TREAT STAINS: As I’m putting my dirty laundry in the correct bin, I’ll also pre-treat any stubborn stains right then and there. Always loving when a product can do double duty, Wisk Deep Clean® detergent can also be used to pre-treat tough stains. I seem to ALWAYS forget to pre-treat when I’m about to do laundry. This method insures my tough stains are getting extra attention.
Wash
EMPTY POCKETS: When I put each piece of dirty laundry in the washer, I make sure that all pockets are empty. Don’t assume that it’s only for jeans. Hoodies, jackets, anything with a pocket COULD have something inside! I keep a small jar on top of my washer for “pocket surprises”. Having a jar in plain sight as I’m loading the washer helps me remember to check the pockets. Otherwise I’d likely forget! Nothings more annoying than taking a load out of the washer to find out a tissue was left in one of the pockets!
TOUGH STAINS: Since moving out to the west coast, Joe & I have been picking up cycling. When I say “Joe & I” I really mean Joe. I’m more of the causal ride type of girl 🙂 . While the sport is great, it definitely causes some DIRTY workout clothes. I used to only be concerned with the stains that I could see. Yet, after getting a whiff of our dirty cycling clothes in the hamper one day my mentality changed forever. The formula of Wisk Deep Clean® actually contains a blend of Micro-Cleaners that attack hidden body oils & sweat that can get trapped in the fibers of your clothes. What does that mean for us? Wisk can get ALL the dirt out in one wash! I stocked up on a couple of these over at Fred Meyer!
Dry
DON’T LET STAINS DRY: If you’ve got a piece of laundry with a pesky stain, make sure to double check it when you take it out of the washer before drying. If the stain is still there, pre-treat with Wisk Deep Clean® and wash again before it dries to prevent the stain from becoming permanent.
PREVENT OVER-DRYING: Somebody in our house might have accidentally shrunk a couple of Joe’s work shirts. I’m sure whoever did that feels absolutely awful and was only trying to help get the laundry done. Yep, Joe’s never letting me live this one down. Over-drying your clothes can definitely make some fabrics shrink. To prevent it, check on your clothes as soon as the dryer cycle ends and hang them up once they feel “mostly dry”.
May your laundry be completed as quick and efficient as possible!

Omgosh, I love your jar idea for “pocket surprises”! That is absolutely genius! I am going to be making one of those today because it seems that everyone in my house is constantly leaving items in their pockets. Thanks for these tips!
