Create a gorgeous & festive no bake brunch. Perfect for a fun Saturday with the girls, bridal party or baby shower! Lots of creative ideas!

This post was sponsored by Starbucks as part of an Influencer Activation. I received compensation and complimentary products to facilitate my review.

While I love hosting parties, I HATE cooking. That’s why I’m so excited how well my recent no bake brunch party turned out! While the food was simple, I added some really fun elements to make it special, including the new TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods. They have a creamy blend of black tea, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla, making it a sweet meets spicy taste. Plus all the two step process just made them fun to make!

Since the food was simple, I wanted to make it a little bit more fun! The Seattle farmers market was my first stop. The flowers available this time of year are AMAZING and ridiculously affordable so it was tough to choose a favorite …. so I bought two bunches 🙂 . Finding some beautiful pink arrangements, I had my color pallet.

Although the food was simple, it was fun! The yogurt parfaits were pre-assembled into stemless wine glasses instead of using plain bowls. For some reason we all felt a little fancier eating our yogurt from a wine glass 🙂 . Plain Greek yogurt, granola and assorted berries made this the healthy food dish of the brunch! I complied these right before the guests arrived so to prevent the granola from getting soggy. Doughnut holes were placed on skewers with pink decorative paper circles taped on the ends to tie in the color scheme.

Pink lemonade from concentrate was given a ‘pop’ with lemon slices and extra berries (from the yogurt parfaits) floating on top of the pitcher.  TAZO® Chai Lattes were such a fun beverage treat for the guests. We all decided that tea and doughnuts are going to be our new brunch combo! Having the K-Cup® pods made my job as the host much easier!

Alternating colors of pink napkins were placed on top of a gray ‘table cloth’. That table cloth was actually unused gray fabric from my envelop pillow tutorial. I bought WAY too much fabric, but fortunately I don’t like to get rid of ANYTHING. I was so excited to finally put it to use! I opted to skip sewing the edges of the fabric and instead simply folded the edges & ironed for a nice clean edge line. It turned out to be a perfect complement to the pink flowers & napkins and white serving dishes & vases, especially since I was going for a minimal style with pops of color.

I opted to place small bunches of flowers in white & clear vases throughout the table instead of just one large bouquet. Flowers are such an easy way to make a tablescape look more elegant especially when it includes several kinds.

Brunch doesn’t have to mean BAKING! Especially when it’s so easy to turn the ordinary into special. The new TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods take chai tea to a whole new level. See how I create a fun popup coffee station for my weekly Saturday morning walks with my girlfriends! Fanny pack totally optional, but always welcome!

I love (love love) planning & hosting cocktail parties. Don’t we all? As the weather gets nicer and as I’m trying to be more healthy, I’m hosting less evening parties and getting in more exercise during the day. Grabbing a couple girlfriends and power walking around Seattle has become my new Saturday morning routine. Wanting to make my morning exercise more special, I put together my own popup coffee station our next Saturday walk. Fun, festive, and totally easy way to make exercise a little bit more fun! (and I’m NEVER without coffee)

Supplies

The washi tape not only adds a cute touch to these colorful coffee mugs, but helps distinguish each friend’s mug. (I even decorate my toilet paper rolls with it 🙂 )

I stocked up on Dunkin’ Donuts® Coffee Creamer Singles in three flavors: vanilla, caramel and hazelnut to transform my simple black coffee into a yummy treat. It’s an every day creamer that I can take with me anywhere. No need to refrigerate so I even took a couple with me in my fanny pack to pop our as we were walking. (Yes, I wear a fanny pack proudly. And still waiting for them to come back (?) in fashion.)

Each of my friends was able to put together their own coffee drink and grab a breakfast bar before we headed out on our walk. It was a fun surprise and such an easy way to make our morning exercise even more fun. Plus, now we’re ‘those girls’ who have matching coffee cups when we do our morning walk 🙂 .

Any time I ask my mother-to-be girlfriends what I can buy for their little ones, diapers are ALWAYS on the top of the list. Although I love a practical gift, it’s not exactly as fun to shop for as say … little girls outfits, right? For me, the practical side always wins and I’m off to the store to buy diapers 🙂 . Never wanting to miss an opportunity for a DIY, my girlfriends get their diapers with a side of an adorable baby shower decoration. I’ve been making these diaper cakes since my first girlfriend had a baby (BEFORE the days of searching Pinterest for instructions!), so I was ecstatic to partner with Pampers to show you my modern twist on the classic baby shower diaper cake!

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

Pampers is offering big savings in this Sunday’s paper, with two high value coupons. Get your scissors out because there will be a coupon offer for $3 off two bags, or one box, of Pampers Diapers OR Training Pants in the P&G newspaper insert. Additionally, there will also be a coupon for $1 off Pampers Splashers Swim Diapers. These coupons are good at any mass, discount or grocery stores where Pampers Diapers and Training Pants are sold.

Supplies for the Diaper Cake

  • 1 large package of about 60 Pampers diapers size 3 or above (Pampers Swaddlers are recommended – because they are white)
  • Bag of rubber bands, assorted sizes (or about 60 small, 6 large)
  • One bottle of Champagne (this will be the base of the cake AND an awesome surprise for mom & dad!)
  • Ribbon at least 1 in. wide to go around each of the three layers
  • Scotch tape
  • Stapler
  • Decorations for on top of the cake (I opted for my easy to make coffee filter flowers)

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

The first step is to start rolling your diapers. If you purchase plain white diapers (Pampers Swaddlers are a great all white option), then simply roll the diapers front to back using a rubber band to tightly secure in the middle. Since I didn’t have all white diapers (I used Pampers Baby Dry), I rolled them inside out to hide the design on the outside of the diaper. You’ll want the rubber band secured tightly in the middle so that the whole cake will have a uniform look. I used about 50 diapers total on this cake.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

Take about 9 of the rolled diapers and stand them up in a ring around the Champagne bottle. You may need a couple more or less diapers depending on the size of your diapers & champagne bottle. Put a large rubber band around this first ring so that the diapers hug the Champagne bottle. Do the same exercise a second time, making a second larger ring of diapers around the bottle. I used 14 diapers for my second ring. Secure with a large rubber band.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

Now that you’ve got the base of your cake done, we’re going to do the same thing for the second layer.  My second layer used 9 diapers. Again, secure the entire ring with a large rubber band.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

My second layer of diapers started to cave inward following the shape of the bottle. To help make the diapers stand up straight, I padded the sides of the bottle with a couple non-rubber banded diapers. It made a huge difference on my second layer.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

Finish off with the top layer. Mine took 5 diapers. As you’re completing each layer, ensure that your large rubber band is in the middle of the diapers. That way when we place the ribbon around the diapers it will hide the rubber band easily.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

Once your cake is complete, it’s time to decorate! Since I was aiming for a clean sophisticated look, I kept it simple with just two strands of ribbon per cake tier. Each ribbon should be 1 inch longer than the circumference of the tier. The key to making the ribbons have a really clean look is to ensure that they’re smooth and unwrinkled. Using a towel as a buffer, I quickly ironed each of my ribbon strands to smooth them out.

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

To secure the ribbon around each cake tier, you could use glue to make it look seamless on the back. That seemed a little too messy & complicated for me, so I opted for the easy way: paper clips for the large ribbon and scotch tape for the narrow ribbon. The key is to pull the ribbon tight BEFORE paper clipping / taping the ribbon ends together to ensure it stays put. Another benefit of this method is that the diapers don’t have glue on them when they actually get used!

The diaper cake is a classic staple at any baby shower. Step it up a notch with this modern sophisticated twist on the classic for your next shower!

I opted to decorate the cake with flowers for a elegant touch. To make these flowers, you can follow my coffee filter flower guide. Yes, those are actually coffee filters!

Joe & I love hosting dinner parties (he does ALL the cooking and I do the rest 🙂 ), but this was the first time I had planned any type of sporting event party. Never backing down on a reason to celebrate, college basketball play offs seemed like a perfect time to host a party! I’ve been wanting to do a basketball theme party for a while and excited with how it turned out!

Plan the ultimate tournament Basketball Party with these decorating ideas & tips. Surprise your guests with our potato chip cookie recipe!

Wanting the look to be mostly black & white with hints of orange throughout, I first searched all over our home for decorating inspiration (and anything I could use for the decor). Fortunately I was able to find a couple items around the house to include. I’ll point out those in photos below!

Not only did we need decorations, but FOOD as well! I decided to make my fun sweet and salty Potato Chip Double Chocolate Chip Cookies.

With shopping list in hand, I headed over to Target to pick up our supplies (recipe ingredients & decorations). I would have bought online, but I really wanted to check out the decorations section in person!

Potato Chip Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chips, crushed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Soften butter by putting in a microwave safe bowl and heating for about 30 seconds. To crush the chips easily, first put them in a plastic ziplock bag BEFORE crushing in to tiny pieces. In a large bowl mix all ingredients well. Cover & refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough in to small balls (about 1 1/2 inches in diameter). Place on to a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray 2 inches apart. Bake for roughly 10 minutes. Cookies should be lightly brown around the edge.

Once the cookies were done, it was decorating time! I started with a black table cloth & used all white serving dishes. Blending some items I had around the house (silver vase with twigs) and some that I bought at Target (basketball netting), below.

To add some more ‘sweet’ dishes, I whipped up some chocolate cupcakes with white icing.

Decorating was super easy:

Each cupcake has two strips of card stock paper: 1 1/2 inch white paper and 1/2 inch black paper. Wrap both around the cupcake and staple the paper together in the back.

Taking orange card stock, I simply cut out small circles, added the basketball lines in and stuck on top of the frosting!

The Potato Chip Double Chocolate Chip Cookies were placed in these adorable white baskets that resembled a basketball hoop, lined with tissue paper.

I added some chips to compliment the sweet dishes in a silver bowl, setting on top of black & white alternating napkins. (Confession: this is a pretty small bowl because unfortunately I couldn’t just eat one. Oops!)

White ramekins were used to hold the orange gumballs and Reese’s Pieces.

The bottled water even got a makeover with two inch black card stock wrapped around with a little tape in the back!

Make these adorable coffee filter flowers for any occasion! Skip the real flowers for this fun and easy DIY option! option. Step-by-step tutorial included!

I’ve never been able to find fake flowers that I really like. Most of them KIND OF look real. But they’re not and that’s the problem. That’s why I LOVE these coffee filter flowers. No one is going to mistake them as a cheap knockoff, yet they add a really cool punch of color to any occasion. And when each one costs only pennies, they’re a heck of a deal compared to the real thing! I made these for a baby shower I hosted and surprisingly the guests asked if they could each take one home. Note to self … next time SKIP the guest bags!

Supplies:

  • Coffee filters (each flower needs 6 coffee filters)
  • Food coloring
  • Stapler
  • Scissor
  • Large bowl
  • Baking pans

Instructions:

In a large bowl mix cold water and a couple drops of food coloring. I noticed that my flowers turned out lighter than the food coloring water so I’d recommend adding a bit more food coloring once you get to the desired color. Add roughly 10 coffee filters at a time in to the water and soak them. Make sure they’re completely soaked, even the ones in the middle.

Make these adorable coffee filter flowers for any occasion! Skip the real flowers for this fun and easy DIY option! option. Step-by-step tutorial included!

Once everything gets wet, you can take them out (no need to let them sit in the water). Squeeze thoroughly to get as much of the water out as you can. Don’t worry about ripping them. Surprisingly the coffee filters were pretty durable.

I pealed them apart so that I only had 3-5 stuck together before laying the coffee filters on a baking pan. I then “baked” them at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes, flipping each at the 10 minute mark.

Make these adorable coffee filter flowers for any occasion! Skip the real flowers for this fun and easy DIY option! option. Step-by-step tutorial included!

Mine weren’t completely dry after 20 minutes, but not wanting to burn down the kitchen I let them sit out for a couple hours to completely dry. If you’re a little less paranoid (and a better chef) than I am you can put them in the oven longer, if needed. You’ll want these completely dry as it will be hard to create the flower with damp coffee filters.

Make these adorable coffee filter flowers for any occasion! Skip the real flowers for this fun and easy DIY option! option. Step-by-step tutorial included!

Take the first 3 and line them up on top of each other. Fold the stack in half. Then, fold the half in half again, so it ends up in fourths. Don’t worry if they’re not perfectly aligned after you fold. It will actually look a little better if they’re not completely even.

With your scissor, cut a scallop around the top. Again, don’t worry about it being even or even looking nice. One of the best things about making these is that literally NO step needs to be perfect in order to turn out great.

Twist and ruffle these 3 layers. Pinch the bottom tightly so it doesn’t come apart.

Then staple the base to ensure it doesn’t fall apart.

Once I have mine all stapled and secured, I ‘fluff’ them a little (perfectionist) and they’re ready to go!

After you get the coffee filters colored, these only take minutes to make! It was ridiculously quick and easy to add a pop of color to my baby shower decor. These could also be great for engagement parties, Valentines Day, birthdays, even weddings!

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

Once Christmas was over, I claimed that I had enough of holiday decorations and was going to skip the Valentines day decor! Well that didn’t happen 🙂 . But Saint Patricks Day is a little bit trickier. The decorations available in the stores are often a little hokey and mostly geared towards kids. I was looking for something a little big more modern, but still festive for our Saint Pats party. This garland definitely did the trick!

Saint Patricks Day Garland Supplies

When possible I try to select the items on Amazon that are eligible for ‘Amazon Prime’ which means the item has two day shipping for FREE (the Amazon Prime items tend to be cheaper as well). If you’re not an Amazon member and want to try out prime, you can try out a 30 day trial here.

Instructions

The first step is to cut out all your circles and shamrocks. I made 6 strands at 4 feet each, so I needed 60 gold circles & 30 green shamrocks. My gold paper was one sided (rookie mistake 🙁 ) so I had to double the amount of circles.

Cutting tools definitely make this project quicker, but if you don’t have such tools, using a small circular jar to trace your circles will work great too! After the circles are cut, print and cut out shamrock printable. I then traced the printable on my green paper and cut out my shamrock shapes.

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

Next step is to cut the thread strands. I made 6 garland strands, so I needed six pieces of thread at 6 feet each (some of the thread space will be used for hanging the garland from the ceiling. More on that below!).

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

Alternating between shamrocks & circles, lay out 10 shapes roughly 2 inches apart to make each garland strand.

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

Add a small piece of tape to each shape and lay the thread over top pressing down to ensure it’s secure. For the gold circles add an additional circle on top of each.

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

There should be roughly 2 feet of thread left over on each strand of garland. You can cut as necessary, but I used this extra to hang from the ceiling.

Continue for as many strands as you want! I made 6 strands total.

Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

I STRONGLY recommend hanging these soon after you make them, especially if you have a mischievous puppy roaming around. My little puppy jumped on my bed and tangled all the thread!  If you think getting knots out of necklaces are hard, you haven’t seen anything yet!
Add some color and pop with these easy to make DIY Saint Patricks Day garland! Makes a fun addition to your holiday party!

Tape the strand on the ceiling with the clear tape roughly an inch away from the wall (to allow the garland to dangle!)

Happy modern & festive Saint Pats!

I had no idea how to paint balloons, but it's incredibly easy and ads an awesome punch of color for any party theme! Not just for children's birthdays :).

The painted balloon look (I assume that’s what it’s called!) is so IN right now and it’s easy to see why. What you typically see at a child’s birthday party is showing up at upscale gatherings, even weddings, for a colorful touch. I had no idea how to paint balloons, but figured I’d give it a try. What I learned? It’s incredibly easy. And WAY more fun than doing the dishes (read below on that).

Supplies needed to paint balloons

  • Balloons (I used white, but you could pick any color!)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Something to hold your balloons in while you paint (I chose a combination of vases & fruit bowl)
  • Ribbon (optional)

First blow up the balloons.

I had no idea how to paint balloons, but it's incredibly easy and ads an awesome punch of color for any party theme! Not just for children's birthdays :).

Secure the  balloons in some sort of ‘holder’ so that the balloon is a) easy to paint & 2) has somewhere to dry without rolling. My metal fruit basket was the best option, but since I only had one, I pulled out a couple of old vases to use as well.

I had no idea how to paint balloons, but it's incredibly easy and ads an awesome punch of color for any party theme! Not just for children's birthdays :).

Next get painting! This is WAY easier than it looks. Well, at least for me, as I thought this was way above my DIY level. Simply start at the top of the balloon and brush down. Continue around the entire balloon, always keeping the brush strokes in the same direction (essentially don’t brush “up”). Once I went all the way around the balloon, I let it dry for a couple hours. For several of the balloons that I made, I needed to do a second coat. My paint color dried a little bit more faint than what it looked like when I first painted.

I like the thick brush stroke texture on them, so next time I would have been a little bit more liberal with the paint.

I had no idea how to paint balloons, but it's incredibly easy and ads an awesome punch of color for any party theme! Not just for children's birthdays :).

If you notice this photo above is the only ‘square’ shaped photo I took. Well I had to crop because for some reason I opted to paint these right next to the kitchen sink, which was full of dirty dishes. (Great photo Lindsay, great photo).  Apparently painting balloons takes priority over the dishes.

Hang with ribbon or simply tape to the wall!

Fun way to add a sophisticated pop of Valentines Day to your decor with these easy to make DIY hearts. These decorations can be reused each year!

Although I love decorating for the holidays, Valentines Day is typically the one I skip. Probably because I’m still recovering from putting away my Christmas decorations, but also I’ve had trouble finding subtle decorations that can somewhat blend in with my more minimal decor. I’m really in to this DIY hearts projects becase it adds a pop of Valentines Day without going overboard! Another bonus is that these can be used year after year so as you’re putting yoru Christmas decorations away, you can put these up in a snap!

Fun way to add a sophisticated pop of Valentines Day to your decor with these easy to make DIY hearts. These decorations can be reused each year!Supplies

  • Small wooden hearts (I used 1 & 2 inch diameter hearts I found at Joann’s)
  • Paint brush
  • Acrylic paint (I didn’t have any pink paint left o I mixed red & white!)
  • Small clear hooks
  • Real or fake branches (I used fake branches that were already in a vase on my family room end table)

Fun way to add a sophisticated pop of Valentines Day to your decor with these easy to make DIY hearts. These decorations can be reused each year!

Paint your hearts! I painted two coats on each side, waiting at least 1 hour in between coats to dry. (I’m incredibly inpatient so this was by far the worst part of the project.) Don’t forget about the sides too.

Fun way to add a sophisticated pop of Valentines Day to your decor with these easy to make DIY hearts. These decorations can be reused each year!

Then assemble your command hooks, which really just means putting the sticky part on the plastic part. I also cut off the long clear ‘tag’ that stuck out. (The purpose of those ‘tags’ is to help easily rip the hook off of whatever you put it on. But for this project, I don’t plan on ever taking the hooks off.) This is optional based on how big your hearts are. Mine were small enough that the clear ‘tag’ would stick out, which I did not want.

Fun way to add a sophisticated pop of Valentines Day to your decor with these easy to make DIY hearts. These decorations can be reused each year!

Stick your hooks on to each of the hearts. I just placed mine wherever they would fit (sideways, diagonal, etc.). Since I am hooking these on to a branch, it really didn’t matter.

Then just clip these on to your branches, making sure the clip was facing the back. Since the clips are clear it really didn’t matter what direction they were facing as no one could see them (except for me 🙂 ).
