I don’t know what it is about envelope liners, but that extra sheet of paper perfectly assembled in to the envelope always make an invitation look a little bit more special. At the same time, it seems like one of those things that appears so elegant in a magazine, but the DIY option could be a huge flop. So out of fear of ‘flopping’ I’ve avoided making these until now!

Supplies

Instructions

The first step is to select the envelope you’d like to use and pick a paper for the liner. I prefer to use wrapping paper for my liners, but most thin paper will work great. Just make sure to avoid thick cardstock.

There’s two ways to create the paper liner:

1 The easiest way is to use a pre-made template. The most popular paper liner template comes from Paper Source and includes a variety of size templates to fit most envelopes. (see photos below) Once you’ve selected the correct template size, use a scissor or x-acto knife to cut out the liner. If you use an X-Acto knife, make sure to place a cutting matt underneath the paper to prevent any damage to your table.

2 If you don’t have or want to purchase a template, you can use your own envelope as the template. To do so, open the envelope and lay it flat on the liner paper. Trace the entire envelope on the liner paper lightly with a pencil. After cutting out the template, you’ll need to trim it down a little so that it can slide into the opening of the envelope. I trimmed 3/8 inch from each side and 3/4 inch from the bottom.

Step by step guide to make your own envelope liners!

Once you have the paper liner cut out, insert the liner into your envelope. If it’s still a little big, simply trim down each side evenly.

When you’ve got the liner to the correct size, fold down your envelope flap with the liner inside creating a crease in the liner. Then place a couple pieces of double sided tape at the top and sides of the liner to secure inside the envelope.

Now that you’ve got a beautiful envelope liner, you just need something to go inside so …. keep scrolling down!

Baby Shower Invitation Template

Now that you’ve made some super easy envelope liners, here’s an even easier project – the invitations! A quick, simple and super cute Bless this Nest theme invitation. This past fall, I threw my first baby shower for a friend who was planning a bird themed nursery. Matching the shower theme to the nursery decor was a fun touch!

To use the template, simply download it here and edit the wording to match your shower details. You’ll want to print these invitations with thick card stock on a color printer. If you don’t have a color printer and/or thick card stock, Kinko’s can print these for you easily and very affordably!  Each sheet includes 4 invitations. Free Baby Shower Invitation template, Bless this Nest themed

I’m always always ALWAYS trying to find creative ways to get together with my girlfriends. I’ll be the first to say that a bottle of wine amongst friends is always reason enough for me to get together. Yet, being able to turn a simple gathering in to a festive party is always exciting. Especially when it’s super duper easy. We took a standard Girls Night In (4 of my best friends, wine, compfy clothes, good snacks) and added one unique touch: Colorwear packs of t-shirts & markers.

I didn’t tell the girls that I had a fun activity planned for us, which I think made the evening even more exciting.

Once the wine started flowing, all the girls got to pick their favorite t-shirt and we went to work! There’s 175 different designs created by some popular adult coloring book artists like Valentina Harper & Angela Van Dam. Colorwear is actually a NEW product line by The Mountain®, who’s focus is to created ‘wearable art’.

Along with a t-shirt, everyone got their own pack of markers and a carboard sheet to place inside the shirt to prevent color bleeding (BRILLIANT!).

For mine, I grabbed a white t-shirt with flowers. Loved that I could use all the colors to really make it pop!

We spent the whole evening chatting and coloring … a PERFECT way to end a busy work week!

My friend Sara LOVED the bright purple color!

This coloring party was a perfect end to a busy week …. a fun and creative way to unwind. And the girls LOVED that it was a surprise!

And don’t we ALL love a good deal? You can get 25% off your Colorwear order simply by signing up for their newsletter. If FREE is more your style (who doesn’t love FREE?), scroll down to apply to our contest to win a full Colorwear pack!

Not only did we have a fun night in, but everyone literally got a ‘souvenir’ from the night!

Once you’ve made your masterpiece, you’ll want to take good care of it! Here’s what we did:

Before the party started, I washed all the t-shirts in cold water with normal detergent (just NO bleach) and dried in the dyer. Then after decorating, I washed again in warm water on the gentle cycle with mild soap & laid flat to dry. And that’s it! Surprisingly easy to take care of.

Don’t forget to apply to win your 1 of 20 Colorwear packs! Giveway is going on until 8/25/2016.

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

For many of us, summer is synonymous with sun, barbecues and spending time with family & friends. It’s also the perfect season for a neighborhood block party. What better way to get to know your neighbors better and enjoy the warm weather? As fun as a block party can be, hosting one can seem intimidating. I get it. The planning, the coordinating, the execution…. it’s a LOT!

But you can pull off the perfect block party with a little planning and these helpful tips! Here’s the essentials from invites to clean up:

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

The Block Party Essentials

Keep it Simple

There’s a time and a place to go overboard when throwing a party and this is NOT it. I’ll admit, my first block party I went beyond overboard. Adorable handmade invitations, decorations galore, and time consuming appetizers. I nearly killed myself to get everything ready (and perfect) and no one even noticed. No really, no one noticed. Mostly because that’s not what block parties are about. They’re about getting neighbors together for a great time. Yes, you can throw some creative touches to your party while still keeping it simple. Read on and I’ll show you how!

Date & Time

Before selecting a date, I did a search on events going on in our city (popular festivals, concerts, etc.). The less competition, the more folks who will be able to attend. I recommend giving your guests a months notice if possible. Since most people probably assume a block party includes food, I like to schedule mine around dinner time. Remember to keep in mind what time it gets dark in your area. You’ll have to decide whether to bring in extra lighting, if needed.

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

Location Location Location

Stay away from those busy intersections and opt for a near by cul de sac! No cul de sac? How about a house with a long driveway and decent size front yard.  If you’re hosting alone, it’s probably easiest if your front yard is the front yard, but it definitely doesn’t have to be that way. Another option is to work with your city to get the street blocked off. Many cities have an online request form for neighborhood events.

Potluck!

One of the BEST things about a block party is that you don’t have to do all the cooking (I’m a terrible cook 🙂 ). Spread that wealth around. You’ll want to set the tone of what type of food to bring … hot dogs & burgers definitely scream BLOCK PARTY! Assign households different items like salads, sides, desserts, appetizers, etc. I’ve found that our neighbors appreciated being told WHAT to bring. Each guest should also bring their choice of meat and drinks. Designate a couple people to manage the grill at all times. Check out our Girls Guide to Grilling to brush up on your skills ahead of time!

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

Invites

As someone who makes all my own Christmas cards, this one was tough for me. But instead of pulling out my scrapbooking supplies, I pulled out my printer. Printed flyers are the way to go. They’re practical, they’re easy and cheap. Scroll down to grab my Complete Guide to Hosting a Block Party which includes a Word Document block party flyer template that you can customize for your block party! Using a rubber band, we attached a flyer to all our neighbors doorknobs. So many of our guests said it was such a fun surprise to come home from work to see the flyer at their door.

Guests RSVP’ed using Sign Up Genius. This is an awesome (and FREE) tool that allows guests to RSVP. My guests were even able to denote which item they’ll be bringing to share. Not everyone RSVP’ed, but this gave a pretty accurate estimate of who to expect.

Stations

Aside from the grill, you’re going to want tables for all the food and drink to go on. I set up food & drink stations, aka separate tables for each type of food or drink item. Not only do I LOVE the idea of an organized block party, it’s easy for guests to set their dishes down in the right spot as they arrive.

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!Decorate

But decorate wisely. No one goes to block parties for the decorations 🙂 . I opted to make the station signs into decorative banners. Make your own by printing off the Block Party Banner in colorful paper cutting along the lines (scroll down to get your copy). Punch two holes at the top and string ribbon through each. Adding a colorful table cloth and bright colored napkins were a perfect punch of color.

Drinks

No block party is complete without some fabulous drinks! Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi is the perfect wine for sharing. We grabbed several bottles of their Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc for our ‘drinks station’. Making ANY occasion more fun, the Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi has been around for over 30 years! It was a huge hit with our guests. Make sure to whip out a wine opener or two and a couple thick markers for guests to label their glasses with. Self service is KEY for a neighborhood block party.

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

Keep your drinks cool with colorful frozen water balloons! No more ice melting all over your beverages. Plus it’s an easy way to add another pop of color to your display!

From invites to clean up, this is your one stop shop to hosting your first block party! It's easier than you think .... we PROMISE! You'll be thanking us!

Seating for all!

In addition to your food and drink stations, find a comfortable spot for designated seating. Before the guests arrive, place a couple  chairs and a blanket in the area so guests will know to follow suit. I like to keep the seating far enough from the grill that the smoke won’t blow into that area. Turn on some upbeat music so that guests know the block party has officially begun!

First-Aid Readiness

There’s bound to be at least one kid (or adult 🙂 ) who gets a cut. You know it’s going to happen. So go ahead and pull out those band-aids now! I keep a little pouch with Band Aids, antiseptic, gauze and water under one of the station tables. This party won’t stop just because a little scrape!

Making Cleanup Easy

Cleanup duty is never the fun job, but you can make it quick and painless! I place garbage & recycling bags next to each food & drink station. This encourage guests to place their trash in the garbage as opposed to the table. Under each station table there’s a box of cleaning wipes and either box or tray to reduce the number of trips in and out of the house.

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

Wanting to spend as much time as possible outdoors during the warm summer months, I was tempted to move my movie watching outdoors as well. Problem? As most city dwellers can relate, SPACE is the problem! Those huge inflatable movie screens, large lounge chairs and picnic tables for snacks are not in my outdoor movie watching future.

Yet, relaxing outside on a warm summer night with a bowl of ice cream and a great movie with girlfriends is too perfect of an evening to pass up. Always looking for creative ways to enjoy time with my friends (brunch and even exercising!), I was pretty confident I could find a way to create a perfect outdoor movie night with limited space.

Plus if you buy 2 Häagen-Dazs® products at Walmart, you’ll earn a free movie night from Redbox®.  Simply:

  • BUY | Buy any (2) Häagen-Dazs® products at Walmart
  • TEXT | Text “Redbox” to 35350 for receipt submission instructions
  • ENJOY | Get your code & enjoy your free movie night!

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

Always up for a challenge (and a reason to entertain), I knew if there was a will there was a way. OK, maybe a little dramatic, but with a small space a little planning and thought go a LONG way. The roof deck of our town house is large enough to fit patio furniture and I knew with some creative rearranging, I could comfortably create the perfect outdoor movie night space.

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

When setting up your own outdoor movie night, you’ll need 5 key items:

1 Video Source

AKA, the place your movie is played from. The easiest solution is using a laptop with a built in DVD player. Plus I HATE having to learn new technology, so using my computer is ideal!

2 Sound System

While your computer likely has speakers attached, they MAY not be loud enough for an outdoor movie. I can hear the street noise from my roof deck so I needed a louder solution than my computer speakers. A small portable speaker worked great and easily plugged into my computer. Plus it was loud enough to block out any city noise.

3 Projector

If I had to guess this might be the item that you do NOT currently have. While a projector IS required, there’s lots of affordable options now a days. Many reasonably priced projectors work great for an outdoor movie night. Plus over the years, projectors have gotten a LOT smaller, which is ideal because space is limited on my deck!

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

4 Screen

Skip the huge inflatable projection screens for items you likely already have around your home! First you’ll want to find an outdoor wall of your home to attach the DIY projection screen to. Don’t worry about windows getting in the way. I created a screen using a large white poster board taped with masking tape over our bedroom window (which looks out on to the roof deck). If you do use a wall with a window, just don’t turn on the light inside the room while watching the movie and you’ll be all set. Another great option is using a white bed sheet.

5 Movie

When  you buy 2 Häagen-Dazs® products at Walmart, you’ll get a free movie night from Redbox®. Select your favorite, pop it in your laptop and enjoy … for FREE!

Is it movie time yet?

Almost! Before my girlfriends arrived, I did a ‘seating check‘. Not wanting to have even one bad seat in the house, I made sure that the movie ‘screen’ was view-able by all our roof deck seating. Since our furniture wasn’t set up to be staring in our master bedroom window (aka the movie screen), I had to do a little rearranging.

Next, I grabbed some blankets and outdoor pillows to ensure everyone was comfortable as possible.

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

Last, but definitely not least, ICE CREAM! I used some adorable paper bowls, napkins and spoons at Walmart when shopping for the ice cream. Displaying the dessert on a white serving tray made setup and clean up ridiculously easy. It also used up very little space. Another plus!

Bring your movie night outdoors! Hosting an outdoor movie night has never been easier. Add a delicious ice cream bar as the perfect movie watching dessert!

I can’t think of a better way to spend a warm summer night and I even had room to spare!

What’s your perfect summer activity?

Fun twist to keep your drinks cool with these frozen water balloons! Easy way to add color to ANY occasion. Perfect for summer barbecues! Fun twist to keep your drinks cool with these frozen water balloons! Easy way to add color to ANY occasion. Perfect for summer barbecues!

One of my favorite things about planning parties is not the extravagant meals (if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you knew that I’d never be cooking a fancy meal 🙂 ), but instead finding fun, easy, yet unexpected touches to add to the event. That’s ONE of the reasons I love this water balloon solution to keeping your beverages cool. Who would expect to see colorful frozen water balloons amongst their beverages? Another perk? No more melted ice in the coolers or in your drinks.

Yet one more reason? These are so incredibly easy to make. Simply fill up regular balloons 1/4 of the way full with water. I’ve heard that actual water balloons are NOT a great option as they’re not as strong so stick with regular balloons.

Fun twist to keep your drinks cool with these frozen water balloons! Easy way to add color to ANY occasion. Perfect for summer barbecues!

Then toss them in the fridge for at least a couple hours. Don’t worry, NONE of mine broke. I set all the watered balloons next to each other in a section within my freezer. Then when the party was about to get started, I removed from the freezer and placed in a cooler.

This is a perfect way to continue your party color theme OR to simply add a pop of color to a party!

Surprise your guests with their childhood favorite, milk and cookies, at your next party! Easy, fun & unique cocktail party desert your guests will LOVE!

This post was sponsored by a2 Milk® as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

I’ve always had a super sensitive stomach. Acidic foods are really tough (which is terrible, because I could live on pizza and pasta) and the worst is milk. I’ve always just assumed I was mildly lactose intolerant because a bowl rich pasta or glass of milk and cookies always sends me to my bed with a miserable stomachache. Yet, I had no idea why. Little did I know that regular cow milk contains two types of proteins, A1 and A2. Unfortunately, the A1 protein is the cause of a lot of people’s stomach problems when consuming milk. Who knew?

Surprise your guests with their childhood favorite, milk and cookies, at your next party! Easy, fun & unique cocktail party desert your guests will LOVE!

If you are like me and have stomach troubles when drinking milk, then a2 Milk® could be a great solution. Here’s what I’ve learned so far

  • There’s been independent studies that show 1 in 4 Americans have some kind of stomach discomfort after drinking milk. (I guess I’m not alone!) Yet only a slim percentage (5-7%) has been clinically diagnosed with a lactose intolerance.
  • a2 Milk® has approximately 6x the amount of calcium as soy beverages, 8x the protein of almond beverages, 6x the potassium levels of rice beverages so it beats out a lot of the common milk alternatives.
  • The a2 Milk Company™ have started bottling milk that comes from select cows who naturally only produce the A2 protein without the A1.

It’s easy to spot these containers right in the dairy section of your grocery store. Find a2 Milk® for yourself by checking their store locator. Visit their site to find out more about this milk!

What does all this mean?

It means that anyone with a sensitive stomach can once again enjoy pasta, a tall glass of milk, and a milk & cookies dessert …. which brings me to:

Surprise your guests with their childhood favorite, milk and cookies, at your next party! Easy, fun & unique cocktail party desert your guests will LOVE!

Ingredients for Milk and Cookies Party Dessert

Cookies (makes 30)

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 sticks (16 tablespoons) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Milk Shot Glasses

  • a2 Milk®
  • Sprinkles
  • Corn syrup (could use honey or frosting as a substitute)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all cookie ingredients in a large bowl until all ingredients are blended together. Then line a baking sheet with tin foil or grease with cooking spray. Use 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie to roll into balls. I can fit 10 cookie balls on to each baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. (I LOVE soft cookies, so I tend to bake for less time, max of 10 minutes.)

Once the cookies are complete, it’s on to the sprinkled rim milk shot glasses! I was nervous to do this, assuming its one of those things that looks easy on Pinterest, but totally impossible to do at home. I promise you it’s actually easy and DOES work! Using two regular sized cereal bowls, I filled 1/2 inch of sprinkles in one and 1/2 inch corn syrup in the other. The trick to these is to dip the shot glass into the corn syrup QUICKLY, just getting the very top of the glass onto the corn syrup.

My first instinct was to OVER dip. Bad idea. The corn syrup ran down the shot glass and so did the sprinkles. Instead simply dipping the very tops of the shot glass for just a second before dipping in to the sprinkles (for a couple seconds) worked perfect.

Let the shot glasses sit for a couple minutes before pour in the milk when you’re ready to serve. The corn syrup was a great adhesive as the sprinkles actually stayed put for hours (because of this, I was able to prep these ahead of time storing in the fridge). Then when you’re ready to serve, simply pour in the milk. Make sure you pour the milk in the CENTER of the shot glass so that it doesn’t touch the sprinkles.

Now all you need to do is add cookie or two on top or next to the shot glass!

Create a gorgeous & festive no bake brunch. Perfect for a fun Saturday with the girls, bridal party or baby shower! Lots of creative ideas!

This post was sponsored by Starbucks as part of an Influencer Activation. I received compensation and complimentary products to facilitate my review.

While I love hosting parties, I HATE cooking. That’s why I’m so excited how well my recent no bake brunch party turned out! While the food was simple, I added some really fun elements to make it special, including the new TAZO® Chai Latte K-Cup® pods. They have a creamy blend of black tea, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla, making it a sweet meets spicy taste. Plus all the two step process just made them fun to make!

Since the food was simple, I wanted to make it a little bit more fun! The Seattle farmers market was my first stop. The flowers available this time of year are AMAZING and ridiculously affordable so it was tough to choose a favorite …. so I bought two bunches 🙂 . Finding some beautiful pink arrangements, I had my color pallet.

Create a gorgeous & festive no bake brunch. Perfect for a fun Saturday with the girls, bridal party or baby shower! Lots of creative ideas!

Although the food was simple, it was fun! The yogurt parfaits were pre-assembled into stemless wine glasses instead of using plain bowls. For some reason we all felt a little fancier eating our yogurt from a wine glass 🙂 . Plain Greek yogurt, granola and assorted berries made this the healthy food dish of the brunch! I complied these right before the guests arrived so to prevent the granola from getting soggy. Doughnut holes were placed on skewers with pink decorative paper circles taped on the ends to tie in the color scheme.

Pink lemonade from concentrate was given a ‘pop’ with lemon slices and extra berries (from the yogurt parfaits) floating on top of the pitcher.  TAZO® Chai Lattes were such a fun beverage treat for the guests. We all decided that tea and doughnuts are going to be our new brunch combo! Having the K-Cup® pods made my job as the host much easier!

Alternating colors of pink napkins were placed on top of a gray ‘table cloth’. That table cloth was actually unused gray fabric from my envelop pillow tutorial. I bought WAY too much fabric, but fortunately I don’t like to get rid of ANYTHING. I was so excited to finally put it to use! I opted to skip sewing the edges of the fabric and instead simply folded the edges & ironed for a nice clean edge line. It turned out to be a perfect complement to the pink flowers & napkins and white serving dishes & vases, especially since I was going for a minimal style with pops of color.
