Too many gift cards and not enough organization?
I WISH I had that problem! Fortunately my sister, Whitney, did (and took some pictures of her solution). After recently getting married, she had TONS of gift cards. Nice right? Well she came up with this easy & quick way to keep her gift cards organized ….
Supplies Needed for Gift Card Organization
- Hole punch (either a single or a 3 ring punch)
- 2 inch book rings
- Permanent marker
- Gift cards!
BEFORE punching a hole, locate the bar code on the back of the gift card, aka the black thin strip. Make sure to punch your hole on the OTHER side because punching on the bar code will prevent the card from working at the store. The last thing we all want is a gift card that doesn’t work!

Using either a single hole punch or even this 3 ring binder one, punch a hole at the edge of the gift card, aiming for 1/2 inch space on the side. 
Before placing your gift cards on the ring, write the current balance on each card with your permanent marker. I’ve even noticed some stores nowadays will write an updated dollar amount on the gift cards after each use!
Now all you need to do is place your cards into the book ring. Whitney opted to put all her wedding gift cards together in one book ring but the options are limitless 🙂 . If you’ve got lots of gift cards, you could organize by type of store (department store, drug store, etc). I’m one of those people who worries that I’m going to lose my gift cards, so I’d realistically place all my gift cards on one book ring. Then when I’m planning on running errands, I’d remove the gift cards of the stores I plan to go to and place those on a separate ring to take with me.

This is a great idea! I had SO many gift cards floating around in my wallet and purse, it was hard to keep track of them all. Then I decided to stop carrying them all around and just leave them at home, and of course as luck would have it I’d find myself out at a store I had a gift card to and I wouldn’t have it with me. I’ll have to try this!
OMG I would do the EXACT same thing! I didn’t want to carry ALL of the gift cards with me but then would end up a a store without them!
This is such a great idea to store gift cards. I have never heard of it before. Now i am going to store all my gift cards like this instead of going everywhere in bag 😉 thanks for such a great idea !! x
